“Is it going to rain?” That was the thought on our minds as we prepared for annual Christmas Party. The clouds had been getting darker all afternoon as we decorated our yard with colorful Christmas decorations.

The staff from YWAM East Timor were in Bali for their staff retreat and we had invited them to join our celebration. Also invited were friends and family of two of our staff who were getting married that same week. One of the evening activities was an American tradition of everyone decorating their own home made Christmas cookie! Another was “Put Jesus in the Manger” – our variation of “pin the tail on the donkey”! We had friendly fellowship over a delicious dinner.

The main event of course was Carols by Candlelight. We had hung flags from different countries as a reminder that “God so loved the world…”. If there were no Christmas, there would be no Easter. Worship was joyous. The presence of the Lord reminded us that even though there is much turmoil in the world, for a moment there was “Peace on earth”. Oh – in case you were wondering – it started to rain ten minutes after guests had left and everything cleaned up. God is kind!

We took our health care team to a poor and remote area on a neighboring island. It was our third visit to this area. On our first day we went up to the main village area and greeted the village leader to let him know that we were back and asked his permission if we could visit his village and the surrounding area. He was delighted to see us as he was one of our patients on our first trip there when he had suffered from a sudden and severe knife wound on his leg. So, he remembered us well!

He told us that we were more than welcome to visit any of the homes and communities in the surrounding area, he said that he would make sure that the other leaders knew that we had already been welcomed in. The next morning, there was an announcement from the loudspeaker of the mosque announcing that our health care team had arrived, and that we had already been given permission to visit all the nearby communities so please welcome the team when they come to your place. It was wonderful to see the doors open so quickly to the whole area in a place that’s usually suspicious of strangers!

We made many great connections during this trip. Even though we saw 226 patients during our time there, we felt that our testimony wasn’t about how many people we saw, but rather about how deep we were able to connect with so many of them. We were invited into homes and families, invited for meals, given not just 1 or 2 mangos as a thank you but given a whole bag of 15 mangos! We also felt that as evidence of their trust, some patients needing help would come looking for us at the home where we were staying. And through all this we had real opportunities to share and pray for some specific people.

Rote is a beautiful island. It takes 1.15 minutes from Kupang by fast boat. God led us to go there to pray for the island, and also to worship and to ministry to the people.

One day, we had prayer walked around the city. It’s a very small city and it only takes about one hour to walk around it. During that time, we felt to declare God’s word in every place we went to and to spread scripture around that we wrote on pieces of paper as a prophetic action to the city and the island. As we walked, we gave these scriptures to people we met. Some wanted to received it but others were scared. We asked them to read it out loud as a declaration and a reminder to themselves and others who heard them.

As we passed by one house where 3 young man were sitting, I felt to give them each a scripture and then to say good bye and leave them. But as I walked out, they called me to come back. I called my other team members to join me. They were curious about what I’ve given them and begin to read out loud and ask questions related to that. The scripture we gave them was about ‘the fruit of the spirit’ (Gal. 5:22-23). It open a door for us to begin a conversation with them. They felt really encouraged even though they weren’t Christians. To close our conversation, we asked if we could pray for them, they looked very happy and received the offer.

At the same day, on our way back home, we stopped by a traditional market to get some house supplies. Two ladies were sitting at the front of a shop selling their vegetables. My friend and I felt to gave them scriptures. They were curious at first and then they accept it, we had a conversation with them. They are nominal Christians. The conversation led into the topic of how a Christian life is more than just going to church and do a ritual religion. It’s about having relationship with Jesus and loving HIM with all of us. At the end of the conversation, they wanted to receive prayer and dedicate their lives to Jesus, so we prayed for them and blessed them….Halelluyah !!! As we talked to them, we believe people around also heard what we’ve talked about, as we saw them looking at us and we believe God also will touch their heart.

Back home we were full with joy, we believe every seed of God’s words and prayer will never return in vain but the Holy Spirit will continue to water it in every heart and it will bear a harvest of salvation in that city.

The School of Worship just finished their outreach in Indonesia and Timur L’este. Here is one more praise report from the team.

“Praise the Lord, because of Him we were able to do the impossible during this SOW outreach. He used us to bless the local people according to what is on His heart. Through what we experienced in this outreach we could understand more about how worship can bring change to people, the nation and the nations of the earth.

One of our experiences is when we had a time of worship at the beach where a lot of people come to hang out in the afternoon. During our worship time and declaring who God is in that place, suddenly a group of young people came to us and joined us in singing songs. Even though they didn’t know any of those songs we believe that God has begun to work in that place and also planted a seed in their hearts. An awesome thing that happened was when we lifted up our hands they also do the same thing. After that we ended up teaching them a song and the actions of that song. When we were about to finish in that place, one of our friends in the team felt to pray for 3 kids that were fighting with each other. She started a conversation with them and asked their name, etc. She used the opportunity to share about Jesus and pray for them. The great thing is that they wanted to receive Jesus as their savior. Hallelujah!!! Now we can only pray that they will get the full revelation and understanding of who Jesus is in their lives and that they will be discipled. Remember, that God always enthroned on our praises. Amen!”

The SOW (School of Worship) has been on outreach for a few weeks now and is travelling around the islands of Indonesia, ushering in the presence of God and doing grassroots evangelism.

The SOW will be going to East Timor next Monday. Only 4 in the team will be going to East Timor, because the rest didn’t bring their passports and some haven’t got their passport yet.

We met the DTS of UofN Bali who also had their outreach in Kupang and we had a great time of ministry among the youth together yesterday. Many youth recommitted their live to Jesus, we prayed for healing and some of them experienced healing right there.
In Kupang we mostly prayed and worshipped in the city, did house visits, shared testimonies and talked with people and prayed for them in houses and cell groups.
Last week, we visited a house of a friend, and one of her daughter has a mental disorder for about 18years. From what they believe, it started when she took a shower during day time in a particular river where there are magical and dark powers. Most of the people who did the same as her got the same problem. They’ve asked many people to come and pray for her but she is still the same.
We started by had a time of worship together with the kids of the area and also with her and her mum and sisters.
Then we prayed for her. Although she didn’t get completely healed we could see a change in her face, there was a smile in her face. We plan to visit her again before we are going back. We are still trusting God for miracles healing and restoration over her spirit and soul. Her sister is committed to invite God’s presence in the family daily.

We are looking forward for more opportunity to share about God and praying for people. One of the things we felt God wants to do to the people of Timor is to send HIS FIRE again, to fire them up, to burn the coldness of the heart again and to rise them up to live as God wants. They need God’s fire, so that’s our prayer. That HIS fire will consume their heart, so that they may be radically obedient to his voice and love their Creator with all their heart, soul, mind and strength.

Last May at the Call2All conference in Jakarta, Leaders of the bases in YWAM Indonesia,

who attended this conference , made a bold commitment to send out short term teams
to “trail-blaze” all 53 of the Unengaged Unreached People Groups (UUPG) left in Indonesia by October.

As a part of UofN Bali’s commitment, 2 staff went on a three week trip
in July-Aug to visit three of those UUPG groups in Central Sulawesi.
They gathered information about the people and their cultures while praying over the areas.
The following is their story from their experience.

“Our job is not to bring God, because God has existed in each culture long before we even realized it.” This is what God spoke to us before we went to some of the UUPG areas that we as a base were committed to engage with. We went without knowing where and how, but we were fully trusting the Lord for the journey. He brought us through this amazing journey, and we were able to witness His marvelous works in each people group. He truly has existed in each culture, in their lifestyle, their hospitality, their beliefs, and so many other things.

It was an unbelievable journey to cross this mountain. If it wasn’t for God, we don’t think that it would have been possible for us to make it to the other side. He brought us to meet with local people who were very open and very hospitable. We even received a lot of blessing through local people. In one place the people gave us rice for our journey across the mountain, and though they are poor and living in a place where there is no electricity, they were willing to share their rice with us. They only eat rice, and maybe once in a while they eat rice with one pack of noodles shared between 3-4 people. But that didn’t stop them from blessing us. We were very blessed by this journey, and we hope that God will multiply the seed that has been planted in each people group. We were able to engage with those who were unengaged.

Dear UofN Bali base,How do you

say goodbye to people you don’t want to leave? I’m not sure, but pulling out of the base in a taxi towards the bus terminal ended up being

quite a bit harder than Robin or I had expected. Goodbyes can be hard, but I was devastated with how unprepared I was when the time came to go. You can never be fully ready, but I just simply felt like I was leaving something I wanted to stay so attached to. Who would have guessed a twenty two year old guy would cry on the bus ride out of Bali? Just shy of two weeks in Bali and we were in love…..with the people, the culture, the beach, the atmosphere, the food, the bikes….and most distinctly, the base. What a dynamic place to be visiting. So many beautiful people, so many talented, humble, and Christ-seeking believers all under one roof.

We came to the base expecting only

to want to stay a few days. A few days in and we thought about staying a week. A week in and we wanted to stay two more….God is so good. Getting a glimpse into the ministries each member is involved in….was a testimony of genuine faith. To see so many believers pushing a gospel and a faith and a servanthood to locals in prison, the slums, kids in the neighborhood, at the beach, nearby

churches, and to people all over Bali….opened my eyes. I was touched by the prayers in prison, by the eyes of the prisonmates as we sat in circles and bowed our heads to pray for forgiveness. God is working….it may feel slow, but he can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.

I wrote down more things in my journal, pieces of reflection and realizations of a relationship I want restored fully with Christ, all while living at the base. It was only possible through a God strong and creative enough to push dried up people like myself back into a state of passion and potential. God used SO

MANY people at the base in the time we were there to impact me and my heart. Whether it was a small word of encouragement, someone showing interest in my life, sharing testimonies at the table, gazing together at a beautiful sunset, laughing till our stomachs hurt, asking me if I wanted to sit in the chair next to them, being vulnerable enough to tell me a vision or sign t

hey had, insisting I come do a DTS, eating a simple meal together, praying for me, helping us make contacts for the rest of our journey in Indonesia, simply LISTENING to all that I had to say , or riding with me to McDonalds because you can never have too much ice cream……the entire base should be affirmed that God is at work and the people at your base are a powerful testimony of that truth. I have been to a few bases by now and no other base has such a perfectly balanced mix of people, personalities, and a genuine atmosphere of love and compassion and servanthood for the kingdom. Praise God for the people and the place that is YWAM Bali. You have been blessed to be a blessing and I am grateful for getting to soak that in for the time I did. Each member of the base is playing such a vital role in kingdom building and I hope each of you knows how touched I was by your prescence, even if it was just from a warm smile you gave.

I anxiously await God’s work in me still, if that somehow involves coming back to Bali someday soon, I would have no complaints. Until then, God Bless you and your stories and your hearts….please know you will be missed and you will not be forgotten.
